Exhibition review

Most of London's Museums and Galleries are free and because of the plenty it is impossible to see everything! I want to show you some impressions of what I visited so far.
You can click on the names to go to their website. And please excuse the little picture chaos – I can't figure out how I can simply place the pictures where I want them to be … I tried my best with that appliance.

Whitechapel Gallery

Installations, videos, pictures, … anybody will find something interesting. It has premiered international artists such as Pablo Picasso, Frida Kahlo, Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko and Nan Goldin.

Saatchi Gallery

Contemporary art.

Marlo Pascual

Mat Collishaw

Yumiko Utsu
Chris Levine

"The Art of Chess":

British Museum

Illustrates and documents the story of human history and culture from all continents with e.g. ancient sculptures and paintings.

Hunterian Museum at the Royal College of Surgeons

Impressive collection of anatomical, pathological and zoological specimens, including a skeleton of the 2,30m tall 'Irish giant' Charles Byrne. The contents of preserving glasses are sometimes not good for the faint-hearted!

The National Gallery

A great chance to see paintings known from art class in real! See what they've got

"The Ambassadors" by Hans Holbein

White Cube

A smaller gallery with contemporary art in UK.

Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A)

Named after Prince Albert and Queen Victoria. Decorative arts and design from ancient times to the present day. In virtually every medium, from the cultures of Europe, North America, Asia and North Africa.

The other way round ;)
"Designing the Extraordinary"

On my way to V&A through the subway, the buskers' music in the long tunnel aroused a magic mood, I felt like being in a film.

Exposing

Whilst the induction week I met many people from all over the world. This is so amazing and one thing I really love about my exchange semester!
During a short guided tour, we saw a statue of Samuel Johnson's cat Hodge. The quotation on the stone exposes how I decided for my blog's title.

This week's Freshers Week what means loads of parties and events for the new students. I went to Freshers' fair where I was stunned about the endless queue to get in (some stood for two hours!) and the hectic grabbing of freebies and joining societies. The young students seem very excited about starting studies, living the first time alone and of course partying.
So have I been to a party, in Fabric. I wanted to see that famous club, voted number 1 in DJ Magazine's "Top 100 Clubs in the World".

WHEN I GET TO WARWICK AVENUE

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ScSHEnFNRck

I am at another accommodation now. The hall I booked is still not finished, so I will have my (hopefully) last move in a couple of weeks. It was very chaotic and the organisation in general leaves a lot to be desired. My mood is not the best but I want to tell you of my great week.

I had my first visitor already. Jenni, a close friend from Germany, came for sightseeing, eating and shopping (Thank you for your pictures honey ;))!

"Please look after this bear. Thank you" I did when I waited for Jenni at Paddington Station
Posing at Madame Tussaud's
Wellington Arch at Hyde Park Corner, reminded us of Berlin
Traffic lights for horses
Buckingham Palace, London Eye behind
Synchronism
Hyde Park: My first rainy day since I'm here!
King's Cross: It didn't work :(

Yummy Burgers and Milkshakes at Tinseltown!
Our first Cream Tea! Thanks to Elke for this great tip!
Awesome fried Oreos and cheeeesy macaroni!

Looking forward to Christmas
Weary with shopping

Because of the current London Design Festival we had the chance to collect inspiration in many interesting exhibitions!

We also did a romantic boat cruise through Regents Canal.

We started at Little Venice (Warwick Avenue) …
… and stopped at Camden Lock.

I am looking forward to Camberwell induction week that will start tomorrow!

WE GONNA ROCK DOWN TO ELECTRIC AVENUE

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unAwvpw8RqI

While striving for my goal to check every market in London I was at Brixton market today.
It was a sunny Saturday and the ways were full of people. There was a huge range of fresh fruits and vegetables, in addition nearly everything you need for household. I bought some crockery because you don't get it in the hall of residence.
I liked the atmosphere with black and reggae music everywhere and good-humoured Afro-Americans. But there was one woman who seemed drunk and spoiled for a fight. I became scared and left. :(

Electric avenue which is now part of the street market was built in the 1880s and was one of the first streets to have electric light. (Wikipedia)

My paradise

P.S. I found Aldi and Lidl here! :)

DOC MARTENS ON THEIR FEET

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6CyaEEYeR7w

The last two days I have been to various markets. I enjoy roaming between the booths and searching for little treasures. These markets belong to what I love to do in London.

The day before yesterday I went to Camden Market with lots of my housemates. There are many shops for clothes and tourist stuff, many of them repeat. What I liked were the patchwork blankets from India, what I didn't like was a big shop called Cyberdog. :)

Camden Market
Dr. Martens, the latest craze over here.

After that we went to a club called Proud Camden. We danced a bit but mainly chatted. It is hard for me to understand the different accents, always very fast spoken. I hope I will get it soon and have talks without hard concentrating. :) By the way, sorry for the mistakes I do in writing!

While I study Graphic Design, the others do Drawing, Painting, Photography, Sculpture, Illustration, Fine Art, Interior Design, Costume Design and many more. This is very inspirational.

Yesterday I took the tube to Bank station. I walked between many huge buildings to Leadenhall Market. I did not find nice things to buy there, I just passed several restaurants and cafés. The architecture is beautiful though!

Higher, higher!
Leadenhall market
This optician was a film location for Harry Potter I before: The entrance to The Leaky Cauldron.

I walked further north to Petticoat Lane Market (boring clothes, delicious food) and Old Spitalfields Market which was nearly the same like on Sunday when I first visited this place: some nice clothes, bits and pieces.

My goal was Shoreditch, a district that is known to be very creative. Well, besides the main roads I found many small shops that sell art books, fashion and furniture of young London based designers. Above all I saw great street art.

Delicious coffee and brownie at the lovely café Leila's Shop

In the evening I met the others to visit Whitechapel Gallery. We went to an exhibition that showcased brand new work being made in London in 2012.

Before going back to the accommodation we grabbed bagels at the famous Beigel Bake. I met two German girls that are here to do the Bachelor and it was strange to talk German again!
