University of the Arts London – CSM

This college is located in the newest complexes of UAL's colleges. The architecture looks very modern and futuristic and the whole atmosphere is completely different in comparison to my small college in Camberwell.
They offer courses for art, fashion and textile design, graphic, communication, product and spatial design, and performance.

Jonas Mekas

Film-maker, artist and poet Jonas Mekas is a leading figure of avant-garde and independent cinema. He was born 1922 in Lithuania and bought his first Bolex camera on his arrival in New York in 1949. Mainly he filmed the people and places around him.

After his 60-year career he is doing workshops and exhibitions right now in London – for example in Serpentine Gallery. There, I encoun-
tered his work for the first time. I felt like immersing in private situations and feelings. It was also interesting to see people like John Lennon, Yoko Ono or Andy Warhol in unforced everyday life.

"But as I was contemplating my life and my work, I only saw my friends and all the happy moments of us together, and all the places where I have been and where I felt like I was in Paradise."

Boxing Day

Boxing Day is the 26th of December. There are several theories about the etymology, one of them is that servants and tradesmen received gifts from their superiors that day.

My explanation centres about the physical boxing. It was kind of hard to stay calm between all the other people that tried to find the best offers.

Fresh mint & ginger lemonade,
warm pitta bread, smoky aubergine
and Hummus with fava beans
Hummus is very popular here, presumably because of the immigrants. I am crazy about that food so I am happy to find it easily in the supermarket.
Today I ate at Hummus Bros, a new restaurant founded by two college friends in 2003.

A perfect day in Brighton

Brighton is only one hour by train away from London. We decided to go there although it is winter. Maybe that was the best time: the sun was shining and we met only few tourists.
As Lara told me, during the Victorian era depressed women came to Brighton for therapy. I also felt like giving my soul some peace and calmness back. Brighton is so different to London! I fell in love with this small, relaxed and beautiful sea-side town.

University of the Arts London – LCF

London College of Fashion
"… for studying fashion, make-up, beauty-therapy and lifestyle industries. It is the only college in Britain to specialise in fashion education, research and consultancy." (Wikipedia)

It is located fittingly next to Oxford Street. I came without prejudices – but no one can deny that the primary furnishing colour there is pink!

Warner Bros. Studio Tour – The Making of Harry Potter

On my way to school

Last Monday I did something very nerdy: I went to a Harry Potter museum.
But I did not expect such a huge place (we spent there around five hours) with an endless amount of original props and costumes. To see all the details was incredible: Every little thing needed to be designed and built, every single painting you see in the films is a hand-painted oil painting. The highlight was a huge beautiful model of Hogwarts.

Here is a small selection of the photos I took. Sorry for the picture mess. I try my hardest everytime but this Blogger system just does not want to cooperate with me! :(
