Red flower's expansion in autumn

Picture from http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/6461635/Poppy-Appeal-pinning-down-poppy-etiquette.html#

Red little paper flowers pinned on people's coats caught my eye during the last days. One can buy them on many public spaces, sold by The Royal British Legion. With the money british soldiers from First World War who have injuries until today get help.
People who wear this poppy want to show that they remember these hard times and respect the soldiers. The symbol is taken from a poem:

In Flanders fields
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
John McCrae

Edit 10/11:

London Eye and several buildings are illuminated in (blood-)red during this weekend, for Remembrance Day.
