So british

There is a nice and interesting video series, made by arte. You can learn something about the british plug & socket, wallpaper, Marmite, Rock, the Bus, Bobby helmet, cricket, pint glass, school uniform, and tea cosy.

The Underground in London is the oldest in the world – today it celebrates 150 years! I took some pictures of different stations. Sometimes there are very nice artworks on the walls!

Unit 6 8/11: Poetry II,1

After the warm-up we should choose between three other quotations, that deal with censorship:
  • The first condition of progress is the removal of censorship. –George Bernard Shaw
  • Without censorship, things can get terribly confused in the public mind. –William Westmoreland
  • There are worse crimes than burning books. One of them is not reading them. –Joseph Brodsky
This time I worked with Marina, and we decided for the last one. We have some weeks time and two crits. For the first crit we showed four different ideas:

Matches
Thing to burn something is used for enlightening one's head.

Blowball
Ideas seen as seeds that are ready to blow into the world.

Frozen Book
No development because conserved, but also destroyed.

Typography
Battle in the content of the two sentences is transferred into a visual battle. Coding and encoding.

Some Inspiration:

Unit 6 7/11: Poetry I

Currently we have a project with Sam Winston. He "creates sculpture, drawings and books that question our understanding of words" – in my opinion beautiful and inspirational projects! Take a look.

Our project is about poetry. We shall visualise quotations and take care that "Process, Material, Language and Design" all suit the meaning of the quote. I think it is an excercise for concept-thinking. Because we work in pairs, it also trains our group working skills.

The first quotation is the following: Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep. –Scott Adams
Within four hours we had to create ANYthing. Dominika and me decided to make a folded card where the first sentence is written on the front and the second in the inside.
The word Creativity is written false (>to make mistakes), when you open the card you see the letters A, R and T left (>to keep).

And here is a nicer version with letterpress:

Happy New Year :)

This video was filmed at the place I had the opportunity to celebrate New Year this time. Greetings to all the nice people I met here so far. Let's make the best out of the time we have left in crazy London! :)

Und liebe Grüße an alle meine Leute zu Hause! Danke an jeden, der mich hierbei unterstützt. All die Erfahrungen, die ich machen darf, sind unbezahlbar. Bis bald! :)
